Prices by PADD Region
The EIA divides the US into five Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts. West Coast runs $1.00–$1.50 above Gulf Coast due to California's isolated fuel supply.
Gas Prices by State
EIA tracks weekly prices for key states, ranked cheapest first. Green badges mark the three cheapest. Tile colour: green = below national average ($4.26), amber = above, red = significantly above.
Major City Gas Prices
Metro-level prices from the EIA city series, ranked cheapest first. Houston and Chicago reflect Gulf Coast and Midwest supply economics; Los Angeles and San Francisco consistently rank among the most expensive in the nation.
Why do US gas prices vary so much by location?
Every gallon of US gasoline includes a federal excise tax of $0.184 — but state and local taxes range from $0.08 (Alaska) to over $0.68 (California). That single factor creates a structural $0.60+ gap between cheapest and most expensive states before pump margins are added.
The West Coast (PADD 5) is in a semi-isolated supply position. California mandates its own CARB-compliant fuel blend producible only by a handful of refineries. When one goes offline, there is no Gulf Coast pipeline connection to fill the gap — prices spike with no alternative source. Oregon, Washington, and Nevada are caught in the same supply region.
The Gulf Coast (PADD 3) is consistently cheapest — it hosts over 50% of US refining capacity, meaning fuel travels the shortest distance from refinery to pump. Texas, Louisiana, and the wider Gulf states benefit from this proximity combined with some of the lowest state fuel taxes in the nation.
Gas prices are unpredictable.
Your fuel efficiency doesn't have to be.
FuelMarble is a precision-engineered mineral you drop into your coolant reservoir. It eliminates the thermal boundary layer at the engine wall, allowing more complete combustion — delivering a verified 7–15% fuel efficiency improvement on every journey, with some high-mileage commercial vehicles seeing up to 22%.
No additives. No ECU tuning. No engine modifications. Ships to the US in USD. Installation: 60 seconds. One device lasts the lifetime of the vehicle.
Based on 10% conservative efficiency improvement. Field tests document 7–15% for most vehicles; some commercial applications exceed this range.
